Topic: HSE Competency

Abstract:
Competent workforce is a key pillar for safe and success businesses. It is more essential for industries dealing with hazardous materials and performs high risk activities. Unfortunately, competent workforce are not readily available nor easily or inexpensively developed. This imposes great challenge on organizations to have effective and sustainable Knowledge and Competency (K&C) programs. Identifying right K&C needs and establishing effective programs to achieve the desired K&C goals requires unwavering commitment from the organizations leadership. Moreover, to ensure sustainable K&C programs, it should be deliberate and not only a reaction to a given event or situation. Developing K&C in the field of EHSS and especially in process safety field is vital to industries as it is the only way to protect workers, environment, community and assets from catastrophic event and undesired consequences. This abstract will share SABIC’s experience in adopting holistic approach for developing and implementing EHSS K&C and highlight good practices, key challenges and lessons learned.
